The award winning Westside Youth Orchestra showcases the musical achievements of its outstanding young musicians in the Los Angeles area. In 2011 at the Heritage Festivals (HF) national competition in Anaheim, California, the WYO was presented with its’ first Silver award. In 2012, at the HF competition in San Diego, California, the WYO received a Silver award, a Maestro award, and a Most Outstanding Orchestra Group trophy. In 2013, at the HF competition in Anaheim, the WYO received a Silver award, and in 2014 a Silver award at the Anaheim competition.
Weekly rehearsals focus on preparing orchestra repertoire for the 2014-2015 concert performances.
Members of the WYO work towards the highest level of musical integrity, respect for fellow musicians, self-discipline and teamwork. Their repertoire includes works of Bach, Beethoven, Dvorak, Rossini, Offenbach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, etc.
The orchestra is open to students between the ages of 8 to 18. New students to the WYO apply by audition and teacher recommendation.
